Time prediction FAQ
How accurate is a race time predictor?
Predictions based on a recent 5K or 10K effort are usually within a few minutes of your actual half marathon time, assuming you train consistently. They're most reliable when your recent race was a genuine all-out effort within the last 4–6 weeks.
What is a good half marathon time?
For beginners, a first half marathon typically finishes between 2:00 and 2:30. A sub-2:00 is a common intermediate goal, and sub-1:30 is a strong time for more experienced runners. The predictor gives you a goal that's realistic for your current fitness rather than a generic average.
How do I predict my half marathon time from a 5K?
Enter your most recent 5K time above. The calculator converts it to a VDOT fitness score, then uses that score to estimate your half marathon finish time and pace per kilometer. The same method works from a 10K or another half.
What's the difference between predicted time and goal time?
A predicted time reflects what you can run today at your current fitness. A goal time is a target for race day, typically a few minutes faster than your prediction and achievable with structured training. Use your prediction to set a realistic starting goal.
